Saddle Announces Version 0.8

The Saddle team is proud to announce the newest version of the open source software Saddle™ 0.8.

Saddle is an extension for the Mule enterprise service bus (ESB) based on the NetBeans platform. It adds extended message handling capabilities which provide universal access to, and the processing of, virtually any message format. Saddle can support the needs of advanced ESB developers or provide immediate plug and play results to business analysts with limited programming experience. A user-friendly, enhanced graphical configuration frontend provides information and support to the user exactly where and when it is needed. This significantly simplifies the whole integration project lifecycle: prototyping, testing and deployment, maintenance and monitoring. This cost free extension supports both the community and enterprise editions of Mule versions 2 and 3. Uni-directional arrows and full path descriptions make complex message flows more intuitive while the zoom-able view feature allows users to rapidly move from micro to macro views.

Key functionality for the latest version of Saddle includes:

Improved Message Mapper

The new layout of the message mapper simplifies the addition of new business logic by hiding some parts of the back-end code and making the critical logic parts more visible.

Saddle Project

Saddle now supports a unified project structure format which allows users to group files into projects. Saddle’s projects are containers for several applications, each with their own configuration files and each configuration file may contain several services. Support for more than one version of Mule ESB is possible and this is managed by the project framework.

Database Connectivity

Saddle easily connects to any JBDC supported database. Any Mule ESB user, regardless of their technical skills, can now trigger database queries from the business logic and work with the database data in a unified and structured way.

You will find the whole list of changed and added features in the change log at the download section.

These new capabilities are in addition to Saddle’s API for template structures which provides a unified handling of messages regardless of their original format. This means that Saddle users can incorporate an Excel file as easily as plain text files or database input. As Saddle is based on the NetBeans IDE, users will have full support for both the creation and editing of the Java classes that support the management of message channels - independent of incoming message order or type.

Saddle is the result of research and development programs linked to innovative global organizations. The application is currently being used by Arcelor Mittal®, one of the world’s largest steel manufacturers, in a novel program involving environmentally conscious building design.

The Saddle team is committed to the continued growth of the application and would like to collaborate with more organizations that need to develop innovated Mule ESB – based projects.
