A message template is displayed in a tree structure. It consists of nodes and leafs. Leafs contain the actual data as value and do not have any child elements. Nodes always have child elements, which might be leafs and/or other nodes but do not directly have values. A message structure is built by adding child elements to the root node through the context menu that is activated by clicking the right mouse button over a field.

The user has the following options:

Context Menu Option Description
Add child Adds a child field to the highlighted field. If the highlighted field was a leaf, it becomes now a node.
Add sibling Adds a sibling directly after the highlighted field.
Remove field Deletes the highlighted field. If this field was a group or a node, the whole branch is de-leted. The same effect is caused by pressing the delete key.
Expand Expands the whole structure of which the highlighted field is the root node. This option is not available for leaf nodes.
Collapse Collapses the whole structure of which the highlighted field is the root node. This option is not available for leaf nodes.

Furthermore, existing leafs or nodes can be freely moved within the message structure by dragging and dropping them with the mouse cursor.
